Simulatorer

D.H. 115 Vampire

UK, J 28C in the Swedish Air Force

The first jet aircraft in the Swedish Air Force. Body with two tail bars and straight wings. The front body is made of laminated wood and multilayer veneer with balsa wood filling, which provided a well sealed pressurised cabin.

The engine type is the famous de Havilland Goblin radial turbine engine in time-typical single-stream design and without afterburner. It was developed in several different improved versions as material technology allowed. No radar. The extra tanks hold 710 kg of fuel.

Production took place at both English Electric and at de Havilland factories. The Swedish Air Force ordered the aircraft in four installments, the last of which was delivered in 1952. The two-seater version was delivered between 1953 and 1956. The aircraft type was used in many Air Forces worldwide and was also manufactured under license in large numbers - 1000+.

A 28B was actually J 28B which was temporarily used as a light attack aircraft at F14 wing in Halmstad during the years 1953–1956, until sufficient number of attack aircraft type A 32 Lansen became operational.

They were then returned to the interceptor role and were re-based to Type J 28 wings.
